The purpose of the Society is to promote humanity and kindness, and to prevent cruelty to man and animals, by information, statistics, appropriate literature, and by all lawful means which they may deem wise and best, and by assisting in prosecution of crimes of a cruel and inhumane nature; and generally to encourage justice and humanity and to discourage injustice and inhumanity.

The Meriden Humane Society is a not for profit/No-Kill animal shelter and rescue facility. Many of the animals are taken from high risk situations like high kill pounds, cruelty investigations, and from private residents who are no longer able to care for the animal. We care mainly for cats and dogs but also care for other domesticated animals that are in need of care and refuge.

Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. But only 5% of the eligible donors in the U.S. give blood in any given year. Dispite all medical advances, healthy volunteer blood donors are the only source of blood.
Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell, anemia and other illnesses. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live.
Many people say they have never given blood because they haven't been asked. Please, consider yourself asked. The need is real. The need is now.
