The world's largest prime number was recently discovered and it's over 17 million digits long. The normal method to finding out if a number is prime is to divide it by every number less than it to see if it comes out evenly, but in this case scientists had to devise a simpler method because it would take over a billion years verify, and it's not like this study hasn't wasted enough time already.
