Before she could become a Disney princess, Brave’s Merida apparently needed a royal makeover. The animated heroine was officially crowned the 11th Disney princess last weekend (joining the likes of Jasmine, Belle and Mulan), and with the honor came a few tweaks to her image. The new Merida is thinner, with perfected facial features, tamed hair and a more suggestive dress. The makeover has caused critics to complain that the strong, independent Merida, who was initially called a great role model for young girls, has been made to conform to the traditional princess stereotype. This is a whole lot of fuss over a cartoon character!
