*LIST* THE BEST STATES FOR NURSES

Nurse Appreciation Week kicks off on May 6th, celebrating the contributions nurses across the country make. They work long hours, sometimes in hazardous conditions, to help keep us healthy, and it turns out, nurses are better off in some places than others. And a new report reveals where those are.

  • WalletHub’s annual list of the Best States for Nurses has just come out.
  • They compared the 50 states on 20 factors related to opportunity and work environment.
  • States were rated on everything from job openings for nurses per capita to average salaries, mandatory overtime restrictions and health care facilities per capita.
  • This year, the best state for nurses is Washington, which is number one in the work environment category. Washington has one of the highest job growth rates for nurses, as well as very high median salaries for nurses.
  • New Mexico, fifth overall, is first for opportunity and competition.
  • On the flip side, the worst state for nurses in 2024 is Hawaii, coming in last for opportunity and competition and 34th for work environment.
