iHeartWomen, Pretty Tough Presents: Sandy Sanchez of Frida Mexican Cuisine

On Friday, March 8th, iHeartMedia presented an inspirational conversation with fearless women from across Connecticut in honor of International Women's Day. Hosted by iHeartMedia's Renee DiNino and Keynote Speaker, Connecticut Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, this two-hour special event celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and the importance of inclusion. This week, we will be featuring each of the fearless local women who spoke on the panel.

Sandra Sanchez (Sandy), worked as an assistant teacher at Charter Oak Elementary School before devoting herself full-time to Frida Mexican Cuisine. At 19 years old, she moved to the United States from Colombia. Due to her age, language barrier, and limited job experience, the possibility of getting her dream job teaching did not look promising. She worked in countless places doing many different jobs, including Dunkin Donuts, Fountaining Bakery and Puerto Vallarta. Those early years helped Sandy to become fully rounded and invested in the restaurant industry.

According to Sandy, the inspiration behind Frida comes from her beloved husband, Juan, a native of San Luis Potosi. Before him, her knowledge of Mexican culture was limited. With the help of Juan and many friends and family members, she developed a full admiration for the richness of this Mexican culture.

Frida began as only a dream, but Sandy was determined to bring this vision to life. After falling in love with this idea and new business venture, Frida soon came to be a restaurant where all nationalities come together to experience and enjoy Mexican cuisine. Sandy strives to create an unforgettable experience for each guest. She has put countless hours, energy, and knowledge into her dream of making each of her guests feel like family.
