Can you help Bert find a forever home?

COURTESY POST - DOG LOOKING FOR A HOME

Bert is looking for his forever home.

Bert is 1 ½ - 2 years old. He is originally from Texas. He is a 30 lb terrier mix. He has had all his shots, is neutered, has been to obedience class at Metro Pooch and is ready to settle into a new home. He is crate trained, loves being in the car, travels well (we just took him to VT for the weekend), loves every dog he meets, enjoys the dog park and play dates, likes everyone, but is not great with kids as he is still very nippy and gets very excited around little kids.

We are looking to settle him into a new home that will be a better fit for him in the long run. We are very active people and he does not like to be left home alone. His ideal home would be with early risers (he is up and ready to go at 7am), someone who is able to take him for long walks several times a day or to the dog park, ideally someone who had a dog and is looking for a companion for their current dog, as I think he would thrive in a home with another dog. He is really needing to be with someone who has the energy to manage him and spend time with him, and who does not travel or leave him home alone. He is very cuddly in the evenings, he basically shuts down from 7pm to 7am, and goes all day long.

A fenced yard would be good, but he is an escape artist so it needs to be very secure.

He is really a lovely little fellow. We have worked hard with training him, so a little more training will be good. He has become so much less anxious then when we first brought him home and walks well with us. I take him into town to walk and interact with people and dogs and he does well now, walking on the sidewalks. He is a brisk walker, he does not like the water, loves his toys and loves to fetch – both in the house and outdoors. We would like you to be able to meet us and have us come to your home to see if we think it would be a good fit. He is not the dog for everyone, but definitely the right dog for someone. We are happy to have more conversation about him.
