August 5th: Tropical Storm Isaias update

  • There are many side roads that are closed throughout the state right now – impossible to count how many
  • Eversource up to 596,000 customers without power; over 15 towns are over 95% without power (outage map-> https://outagemap.eversource.com/external/default.html)
  • UI has 103,000 customers without power; North Branford, Orange, and Woodbridge are among the hardest hit towns in their service area (outage map)
  • State parks are expected to reopen at noon today following Tropical Storm Isaias
  • Both electric companies say restoration of electricity may take longer than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic and safety protocols that are in place
  • Metro North is not operating today on the New Haven line due to storm damage
  • A man was killed by a falling tree in Naugatuck and is the only known death in Connecticut so far: https://www.wtnh.com/news/connecticut/new-haven/66-year-old-man-dies-after-being-hit-by-falling-tree-in-naugatuck/
